The non-profit organization “Eyes of Light - Body of Art in Health” improves the quality of life of cancer patients through art. It was created to contribute to a more humane treatment of the disease, and innovates in Greece in the use of the internationally recognized field of Arts in Health, with specialized actions and research work (funded by the Ministry of Health). Its beneficiaries are adult people with cancer and their families, from Athens and all over Greece, and it cooperates with patient support agencies from Greece and abroad. Its actions cover the needs of psychological and social support of cancer patients and are designed based on the studies of the World Health Organization. In particular, it implements: a) therapeutic photography workshops, b) participatory visual works and workshops connecting patients and artists, c) guided tours and contact activities with art, d) exhibitions and awareness campaigns and e) design of art programs in care settings. The institution has been awarded internationally for its innovative use of therapeutic photography and its work has been distinguished in Greece and abroad for its impact, innovation and aesthetic excellence.
